Ear infections, recurring – dog Nuri, Afghan male
Nuri suffers from recurring ear infections
Nuri is a 5 year old sweet and lively Afghan male. “He is very curious and active outside.” He has had ear infections for over a year. His owner, Kerstin Papst*, ties his ears up so that more air can reach the inflamed area. But this is of little use. Shortly after stopping the antibiotic, the inflammation usually returns. Finally, the vet recommends the Cytolisa test for Nuri.
“Nuri can’t tolerate chicken, tuna, cereals and yeast.”
Before the test, Nuri was given fresh meat three times a week and otherwise canned food. The test result shows that chicken and tuna are not good for Nuri. But Nuri also does not tolerate cereals, yeast and some vegetables.
“The ear problems went away immediately”
Immediately after the test result, Kerstin changes Nuri’s diet and omits all foods that cause a reaction. After stopping the antibiotic, the inflammation is absent this time. And it does not come back. Nuri has now been without complaints for over half a year. As is necessary with all Afghans, Kerstin regularly cleans the ears, but tying them up is a thing of the past.
“The treats were a bit of a problem”
The vet recommends a yeast-free dry food from vet-concept. It is vegetable-free and grain-free, with potato and horse. “The special food is a little more expensive than the canned food, but it works.” Kerstin keeps the fresh meat three times a week, now with rabbit and beef. “Nuri’s grooming is accompanied by a ritual with treats, but finding the right treats was difficult.” Kerstin kept her eyes open and found what she was looking for in the Barf* store. Now the usual brushing rituals can be practiced again. “I’m glad I did the test for Nuri.”
