Diarrhea from wheat flour – Emmy the dog

“I want to know what Emmy tolerates well.”

Emmy is a 2 year old bright mixed-breed dog of Jack Russell Terrier, Havanese and “something”. Her owner is Julia Wagener, who works in field service. Three days a week, Emmy is therefore looked after in a dog shelter during the day. Julia knows the Cytolisa test from her own experience and would therefore also like to do the test for Emmy. Mainly as a preventative measure to improve the immune system, “because the dogs get infected with all sorts of things during day care at the dog house” – Emmy occasionally has gastrointestinal complaints or diarrhea. But also to know in general which food Emmy tolerates well.

Diarrhea from wheat flour

The test shows that Emmy does not tolerate any cereals. Julia had already noticed before the test that Emmy wasn’t doing so well with cereal and had left it out as far as possible. However, so far she has always been given dog cookies baked with wheat flour at her parents-in-law’s house. The test result explains why a visit to the parents-in-law triggers diarrhea in Emmy. The in-laws change the recipe for the dog cookies and now use corn flour instead of wheat flour – the diarrhea after the in-laws’ visit has stayed away ever since.

Can Emmy lick the yogurt pot?

The test result also showed that Emmy does not tolerate cucumber, carrot or yeast. But eggs and dairy products are fine. “That was a nice confirmation that Emmy can continue to lick the yogurt pot – she loves it.”

It is difficult to find ready-made dry food or canned food

“If you don’t bark your dog*, it’s difficult to find ready-made food that works. Dry food without brewer’s yeast is practically impossible to find and compatible canned food is also rare – sorting out the pieces of carrot is too much work for me.” (*Note: Barfen means biologically appropriate (as far as possible) raw food, i.e. a diet based on what wolves used to eat)

“Emmy has no bad breath and her coat is beautiful

If Julia now occasionally notices that the stool is a little softer, she can usually identify this – “for example, if there was carrot in the food.” What she particularly likes is that Emmy no longer has bad breath and her coat is beautiful. “I put this down to the diet and I notice it negatively in other dogs.” The gastrointestinal problems that Emmy used to occasionally bring back from the kennel have also become much less frequent – her immune system seems to be more stable overall. “The test was a relief for me because I now know exactly what she can and can’t tolerate.”
